Charleston, SC

Charleston has lots to do and see. The City is rich with History from the days of Charles Town Colony to the Revolution and Civil Wars. There are many Historically preserved sites and buildings, and if you are a history buff, Charleston will keep you busy for weeks or months. Downtown Charleston is also a wonderful place to shop, dine, and is great to let your hair down at night at the many Bars and Restaurants. My favorite area to hang out is the Historic Market Street area in Downtown Charleston. There are plenty of Restaurants ranging from cheap to expensive, and if you want to Bar hop, you won't get bored.

If you don't like to walk, you can take a Bike Taxi. These athletic young guys will take you where ever you want to go in the comfort of a backseat for two attached to a large tricycle.

Another way to get around and learn about Charleston are the many Carriage Tours you can catch. These Tours go off every 30 minutes. Prices vary from company to company and you can get tickets in many of the Restaurant on Market Street. Your driver will take you around the Historic Market area and tell you all about the History of Charleston.

There are Ghost Tours, Pub Tours, Walking Tours, Pirate Tours, Water Tours, and Civil War Tours to choose from, and all of the area motels will have the brochures you need, so you can plan just about anything you want in Charleston.

Right down the center of Historic Market Street is the Market itself. This Historic building is still used today. Various vendors hawk their wares there. You can also watch folks weaving sweet grass baskets. Sweet Grass Basket Weaving was brought to South Carolina by slaves who came from West Africa. The functional baskets were used on the plantations and sold for extra income for the slave owners. Today the West African descendents keep the basket making tradition going in Charleston.

Check back here often as I will add more reviews of Charleston places to visit.
