When I got to Memphis, TN a colleague that I was meeting
recommended going to eat Barbecue Pork Ribs at a place called
Rendezvous Charcoal Ribs. Well I was game, so he looked it up on the internet, got directions from Google, called
Rendezvous to make sure they were open, and on our way we went. Well
when we got there, the place was closed. It was only about 8:00 PM, so
we didn't know what to think. There was a garden hose and sprinkler in
the front "yard" and a gate keeping us from going in, so we decided to go
across the street to eat. The place we ended up at was not memorable.
The next day we finished work around 11:00 AM and decided to
try Rendezvous Charcoal Ribs again on our way to Meridian Mississippi. We went back to
the same place. This time it was open but the sprinkler was going, so we
had to dodge the water as we entered the establishment. Well there we were, a
little wet, but ready for some Barbecue Dry Rub Pork Ribs and standing in an office.
A meat inspector for the state introduced himself to us and then the manager
came out. That's when we
found out that we were at the Rendezvous World Headquarters! Well after we all
had a good laugh, the folks gave us directions to the actual restaurant, but they
told us they are not open "officially" for lunch. We found
this humorous and puzzling.
When we got there, after some traffic and difficulty
parking, we found ourselves in the alleyway where Charles Vergo's Rendezvous
Charcoal Ribs was located.
The best way to get there is to park in the Allright Central Parking Garage at
153 Monroe and 3rd Street. It isn't hard to spot once you are in the
alley, just follow the hoards of people.
The "unofficial" lunch is basically half slabs and full
slabs of Barbecue Pork Ribs with their famous Barbecue Rub. Nothing else on the menu is available during the
"unofficial" times. These Barbecue Pork Ribs are excellent! They fall off the
bone and are very tasty. They are a little expensive, but worth it. I
plan to visit Rendezvous again if I get the chance. You can
even buy them over the internet, but if I could afford that, I probably
wouldn't be traveling so much for work.
