Charleston Crab House

The Charleston Crab House is a small locally owned Seafood Restaurant chain in the Charleston area. They have four locations: James Island, Downtown Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, and Columbia, SC. Cheryl and I went to the Charleston Crab House on James Island. This cozy Seafood Restaurant is located on the Intracoastal Waterway at the Wappoo Bridge. It is a very scenic spot to enjoy fresh Seafood and look out over the water.

In January 2006, the Charleston Crab House was renovated for the A&E TV show "Flip This House". In honor of this occasion, the Charleston Crab House sign was placed upside down as you can see in the photo. The Charleston Crab House has been around Charleston since 1991.

If you like Seafood, then you should visit the Charleston Crab House. Cheryl and I enjoyed the time we had at the James Island location. We sat outside on the Patio overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. It is complete with a boat dock too. You can also choose to eat inside where the decor is Nautical with game fish mounted on the walls. The Charleston Crab House is a nicely arranged Restaurant that has all of the trappings you would expect of a Seafood Restaurant.

We started out our meal with the their famous Crab House Crab Dip. This is an old Charleston family recipe that the locals love. It was wonderful. It is a flavorful concoction of Crab meat and other ingredients. It also has bit of a kick, but not overpowering. It comes sprinkled with paprika and served with crackers.

For our main course, I had the Broiled Seafood Trio. This platter has fillet of Mahi-Mahi, Sea Scallops, and Shrimp broiled in a white wine and garlic butter. The Shrimp and Scallops in their sauce was absolutely tasty - especially the Shrimp. They were cooked just right, and the wine garlic butter really gave the Shrimp a nice taste. I found the Mahi-Mahi to be a bit dry, but I still enjoyed it.

Cheryl had the Island Shrimp. The Shrimp are seasoned and grilled on bamboo skewers and basted with a sweet and spicy sauce and placed on a bed of red rice. The Shrimp was grilled just right, and the sauce was exactly as advertised - sweet with a mildly spicy kick at the end. Entrees are served with one side, and you also get hushpuppies. I really liked the hushpuppies. They were very tasty and distinctly southern.

We recommend the Charleston Crab House for Seafood in the Charleston, SC area - particularly the James Island location.
