Filippi's Pizza Grotto is an Italian Restaurant and Market. It is a small, Family owned California Chain, but not a franchise. This one is located in the Little Italy section of San Diego. Filippi's Pizza grotto has been in Little Italy since 1950. When you first see it, you may not realize that it is a Restaurant. To the casual observer, Filippi's Pizza Grotto looks like an Italian Market, but in the back is a Restaurant with a cozy Italian atmosphere.

Filippi's Pizza Grotto Highlights

Filippi's Pizza Grotto offers Italian style Imported Meats, Cheeses, Olive Oil, Coffee, Wines and other Italian items in the Market section in the front. In the back is a large Restaurant that is dimly lit with Red & white checkered table clothe tables. Above in the ceiling are many Chianti Baskets with notes from patrons hanging from the ceiling throughout the Restaurant. Filippi's Pizza Grotto also makes their own Sausage which I tried on a Pizza with green Peppers. It was delicious.
I have visited Filippi's Pizza Grotto several times and have tried their Pizza. I am not a fan of thick crust Pizza which is the style of Pizza at Filippi's Pizza Grotto, but the sauce and toppings are very tasty. Filippi's is very popular, and I noticed a lot of folks ordering the Pizza there. I have also tried the Chicken Parmigiana that came with a choice of Lasagna, Ravioli or Spaghetti, Soup, Salad, and Garlic Bread. A huge meal and for a decent price too. I have never had a Piece of Chicken Parmigiana so tender. It is almost unbelievable how tender it was. All of the food has a good flavor, and I did not go away hungry. The service is fast and courteous too at Filippi's Pizza Grotto.
Other Menu items at Filippi's Pizza Grotto include Spaghetti, Ravioli, Macaroni, Pizzas, Sandwiches, Antipasto Salads, desserts, and they also have a Kid's Menu. If you decide to go to Filippi's Pizza Grotto in Little Italy, get there before 5:00 PM. Filippi's Pizza grotto is very popular, and the line often backs up out the door after 5:00 PM
I highly recommend Filippi's Pizza grotto in the Little Italy section of San Diego. Check them out. You will not be sorry.
