Gunny's Place


Gunny's Place is a Dive Bar located on Red Bank Road in Goose Creek, South Carolina. The building has been there since before I was stationed here back in 1980 -1982. Then it was called the Steer & Stein and was a Dive Bar back then too, but it was much much cleaner. I guess 30 years can really take a toll. But even though it is a Dive Bar, a lot of local folks like to hang out at Gunny's Place. It is a popular place to Play a Game of Pool, sing Karaoke, and have a cocktail or Beer. It is extremely popular with the local biker groups too. It is not uncommon to see 30 or so Harley-Davidson motorcycles parked out front on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

I occasionally visit Gunny' Place in Goose Creek, but I don't make a habit of it. Don't get me wrong, I generally like Dive Bars, but Gunny's is at the very bottom when it comes to cleanliness and the general appearance both inside and out. Even the sign out front is missing. But the crowd is friendly, and you can always find someone to Play a Game of Pool with if you like. They also occasionally have a DJ and out back they put on Oyster Roasts and Bands sometimes play. The prices are very cheap, as they should be, so if you are on a budget, Gunny's Place may be a good choice for you.

If you don't like slumming, then I suggest that you go somewhere else.
