Harrisburg, PA is located in the South Central part of Pennsylvania.
Harrisburg is near a lot of Tourist Attractions like Hershey Park, Penn
National Race Track in Grantsville, and Amish Country around Lancaster. If you go there
for vacation, you will have plenty to do. Harrisburg also has a new
Civil War Museum that is a chronicle of the events leading up to and through
the Civil War period. If you are a Civil War buff, I highly recommend a
visit to the Civil War Museum.
Harrisburg also has a lot of Restaurants, Bars, and a decent
Night Life downtown. The state of Pennsylvania is a little archaic when
it comes to the alcohol laws. If you want to buy Beer to bring to the
house, you have to go to a State owned store and buy beer by the case.
if you want to get just a six pack, then you have to go to a Bar that is
licensed to sell it that way. This is often very expensive.
Veteran's will find plenty of Fraternity Clubs in the
Harrisburg, PA area to visit. The American Legion has so many Posts, I
can't even count them. There are also plenty of VFWs, and other private
Clubs
to go to as well.
Penn National Race Track over in neighboring Grantville is just a 15
minute drive east on I-81. They have temporarily closed the Horse Races
while they renovate the building for the Hollywood Casino that is expected to
open in February of 2008. Right now you can still go there and bet on
Horses in their new Off Track Betting Parlor that they built next to the main
building. I found out the hard way that children under 18 are no longer
allowed in since they started renovating the main building. If you would
like to learn about betting strategies using Exactas, Trifectas, and
Superfectas, follow my link to the Pari-mutuel Page
where I explain how to place these more exotic and potentially rewarding bets.
The Hollywood Casino is expected to be full of Slot Machines, but I heard that
Table Games may be installed as well.
