Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island in the straits are beautiful places to visit and rich in History. It is a little expensive to get to Mackinac Island, and the Island itself is pretty expensive too, but it is a must see especially if you are a History Buff. For instance, the Island was captured by the British during the War of 1812, and you can visit Historic Fort Mackinac there. Mackinaw City has several Bars & Restaurants and most of them are very nice. The whole area is touristy, but that shouldn't stop you from going. Each night the city puts on a Free Laser Light Show at dusk which is great for the whole family. There is also plenty of shopping, and if you like to Gamble, there is a Casino just over the bridge on the Upper Peninsula.
