I have been back and forth to New Orleans,
Louisiana three times during the summer of 2007. I have been to several different restaurants, bars,
Casinos, and motels. I hope you find this information useful if you are going to
visit N'awlins. New Orleans is not cheap, so bring your wallet.
Overall, New Orleans, Louisiana
is up and running, however, there are a lot of repairs that still need to be
made. If you decide to visit New Orleans, be ready to dodge pot holes, I mean
huge ones! I saw one over on Tchoupitoulas Street that must have been
2 feet wide by 3 feet long. Also many of the street signs West of Canal Street
are either missing or severely damaged. This cost me about 30 minutes in
drive time trying to find the Residence Inn on St. Joseph Street. Over
by NSA New Orleans on the West Bank at the intersection of General Charles De
Gaulle and Shirley Drive, a traffic light had been recently knocked down due
to a traffic accident. The pole was moved to the side of the road and the
intersection was without traffic control for over 2 weeks. So if you decide
to visit New Orleans, Louisiana be ready for these types of inconveniences.
Now here are a couple of tips for
you:
Tip #1 - I do not recommend dining in the French Quarter. The French Quarter
is very expensive, and the food is not worth the price you pay.
The French Quarter is known for an almost anything goes Party
atmosphere - not for the food.
Tip # 2 - Beware of pick
pockets in the French Quarter. Usually this is at it's worst
during Mardi Gras or anytime there are huge crowds on Bourbon
Street. Most of the year, it isn't a bad problem, so pay
attention, know your surroundings, and have a good time. I
sure did!
