Pies-On-Pizza Pies-On-Pizza is a locally owned Charleston, SC Pizza Chain. I visit the one on St. James Blvd in Goose Creek and used to get delivery from them probably once a month. Pies-On-Pizza was started by a couple that moved down from Toms River, New Jersey. This Pizza is close to Neapolitan NY Style Pizza - close, but no cigar. I believe the Goose Creek Pies-On-Pizza is the original store, and as word got around that there was respectable NY Style Pizza available, they grew and added other stores.

Pies-On-Pizza Highlights
Now I'm a picky Yankee from New Jersey when it comes to Neapolitan NY Style Pizza. I lived about an hour's drive north of Toms River, so I can't make the complete jump to say that this is what you would expect as a genuine NY Style Pizza, but Pies-On-Pizza gets close on their good days.
When they first opened several years ago, the Pizza was made by Mom & Pop and was consistent. Unfortunately, I think Mom & Pop got busy with their other stores, and about 20% of the time, I get a lousy Pizza. I attribute this to the kids are minding the store, and Mom and Pop aren't watching out for quality like they used to. My most recent experience with Pies-On-Pizza was terrible. I ordered a Pizza for delivery, and they told me it would be about an hour. The price also went up a dollar a Pie. I accepted this and ordered anyway. The Pizza took almost an hour and a half and it was cold. I don't mean room temperature, I mean cold. I called back to the store and told them about it. They said they could send me out another Pizza, but it would take another hour. I told them to forget it because I already waited an hour and a half for cold Pizza, and my replacement Pizza should get a priority. Well evidently they do not think on that level, so now I go somewhere else.
One thing that Pies-On-Pizza does that I have never heard of or seen in Northern New Jersey, or New York City for that matter, is they put spices on the crust - mostly garlic salt. Whenever I order Pies-On-Pizza, I always tell them - "No spices on the crust."
If you want real authentic NY Style Pizza, go to Andolini's Pizza instead. It is much better and made by a Yankee transplant from Queens, NY, not Southern New Jersey.
