Historic Tahquamenon Falls State Park is located in Paradise Michigan on the Upper
Peninsula. The Falls are a set of cascading Falls that have a unique color.
The brown water running down the Falls is a deep brown that comes mostly from tannin leached from the cedar, spruce, and hemlock in the swamps that are drained by the Tahquamenon River.
The water is very soft which also forms a froth from the churning action of the Falls. The picture above is of the Upper Falls.
Tahquamenon Falls also has a few trails that you can take along the
Tahquamenon River. You can hike form the Upper Falls down to the Lower Falls which is about
four miles down River. There is a lot of wild life there, and the picture above is one that I was able to capture near the head of the trail
leading to the Upper Falls.
Tahquamenon Falls State Park also has a Brewery located at the Upper
Falls. The Brewery offers four selections. I tried the Lumberjack Lager which is a Blonde Lager.
It was light and enjoyable. I also tried the Raspberry Ale which was light with a good taste of Raspberry, but not
overpowering. The picture above is of
me enjoying a pint of the Lumberjack Ale in front of the Brew Kettles at the Bar.
The other two selections offered are the Porcupine Pale Ale and the
Black Bear Stout.
We also tried the Smoked Fish Dip which was a bit
fishy for our taste. The Smoked Fish Dip is served warm with crackers. We also tried the
Hot Wings. Tahquamenon Falls Brewery Hot Wings are not prepared like the traditional Buffalo Wings recipes. Instead, they marinate them in Hot
Sauce, bread them, and then deep fry the Wings.
I enjoyed them, but the were more like fried chicken then the saucy Hot Wings you get most places. The heat from the spices wasn't so Hot that you couldn't taste the Chicken. Overall, the
food that we tried was okay and a little on the pricey side. Tahquamenon Falls
State Falls is a nice destination to get closer to nature. The
Historic Falls has a rich History, and after taking in the beauty of
the Falls, a stop at the Brewery is
a nice diversion too.
