Ugly Dog Saloon & BBQ The Ugly Dog Saloon & BBQ is located on the corner of Andrew Higgins Drive and Tchoupitoulas Street in the Warehouse District of New Orleans. It is a good sized Neighborhood Saloon that serves Barbeque, and other pub grub food like hamburgers, fries, and such. I had the Beef Brisket and a couple of sides and it cost about $10.00. The Beef Brisket was tender and tasty and I enjoyed it. I did not care for the Potato Salad. It was a bit dry and bland for my taste. They have several beers on tap including the locally brewed Abita Amber Ale. Abita Amber Ale is a medium bodied ale that goes down smooth and easy. The Abita Ale costs only $2.00 per pint, so you can hang out here, watch a Saints game if they are playing, and mingle with the local folks without killing your wallet.
The locals hang out at The Ugly Dog Saloon & BBQ and watch Sports on TV, play a game of pool, or just shoot the breeze. Everyone is friendly and will engage you in a conversation easily.
The Ugly Dog Saloon is less than a mile from the French Quarter, so it is possible to find really good food and beer for normal prices when you get out of the French Quarter. If you smoke, they have a patio out front that is covered, and if the New Orleans Saints are on TV, they will put a TV set out there so you can watch the game. I recommend The Ugly Dog Saloon & BBQ for a nice place to eat and drink some beer while not killing your budget.
